Primitive Pencil Holder Southwest Cactus Original Folk Art Desert Painting on Box with dark turquoise Blue paint. We constructed this primitive box from 5/16" thick reclaimed red cedar. I painted this Primitive Southwest box a dark turquoise with burnt orange trim on the top, over a base of melted chocolate which shows through in the hand rubbed distressed areas along with just a touch of natural wood tones. The rustic roughsawn texture of the cedar boards provides lots of character for this hand rubbed treatment. On two sides of this box I painted a Southwest Desert Cactus with the bright yellow and orange morning sun shining down on it. On the other two sides of the primitive box I painted the Southwest Desert Cactus at night with stars and a crescent moon to watch over it. The original painting is done on a background painted in shades of dark turquoise green. The sides with the morning scene are a little lighter shade and the side with the night sides are a bit darker to help give the day and night effect. This box measures approximately 4 3/4" tall, 3 7/8" wide and 3 1/4" deep, the perfect size for a Pencil Holder. Signed on the bottom and sealed with a protective water based sealer. We make these in a variety of colors and sizes, they display well together. We retain all copyrights.
